For many years, it has been understood that metal stamping or pressing is an effective and economical method for manufacturing parts that are quite complex. Although there may be a higher price to pay in the beginning to manufacture tooling, deep draw hydroforming can be a quicker and cheaper alternative to other processes, including fabrication. Deep draw hydroforming goes beyond what other methods can do in order to produce parts that are deeper and/or longer.
Deep Draw Hydroforming
The process is one of the many forms of metal stamping that involves the depth of the draw. In this process, the depth of the draw is generally greater than the width. It is very possible to produce parts that are long and narrow, even if the length of the part is greater than the part’s outside diameter. A traditional stamping process is not able to achieve these types of results because the material will have trouble stretching enough. As a result, the part can have wall’s that are not even or rips and tears.
When this form of hydroforming is used, you will not have to worry about these struggles and challenges because the process uses a tool design that will power material to eventually flow into the die during the early stages of the deep draw hydroforming process. The effective tool design will provide enough material to eventually achieve the perfect shape while still achieving the perfect amount of thickness.
One of the advantages of using this type of hydroforming is that you can produce high production volumes. Another great advantage of using deep draw hydroforming is that you will not have to take any extra steps in processing. Complex parts that are acceptable for deep draw hydroforming will generally be the parts that will be too difficult and too costly to produce when you using other processes.
